Emei Cocktail 2019, a blend of aged Taiwanese black tea from Emei Shan, between Miaoli and Hsinchu counties in Northwest Taiwan. The creative and unique blend is composed of leftovers of 3 Taiwanese varieties that the grower harvests in different seasons (spring, summer, autumn), in an organic agricultural environment without the use of chemical fertilizers, nor pesticides.
Nadi stumbled upon this growing farm by chance when he was on his way to visit another farm. As luck would have it, the road was blocked and it started raining, so like in fairy tales, Nadi sought shelter in a small lighted house down the road that turned out to be a tea factory, and the rest is history.
The leaves went through a traditional rolling process in a Taiwanese rolling machine from the 1950s (picture), a rolling process different from the Chinese or Indian one, leaving the leaves thin and partially broken. The blend was made during our visit to Taiwan in autumn 2022 and baked for several days in an electric oven (hong bei) at low heat. As mentioned, we are not aware of anyone else producing black tea in such an original way.
A winter tea of full body, layers of sweet flavors, and a presence that cannot be ignored. The taste profile is deep and distinct, with flavors of caramel, an earthy aroma, and a finish of warm spices. This is the only tea in our Blind Tasting Club's history that earned both coveted titles: the "Most Unique Tea" and the "Crowd Favorite Tea" by the members of the Autumn 2022 Club. A must-have product for tea lovers, especially those looking for adventure.
