Wulong tea (Oolong tea) 大紅袍 Da Hong Pao, in Chinese "Big Red Robe" (da hong pao 大紅袍). The tea grew on a rich, yellowish rocky soil in the Xiamei town, an iconic ancient town in Wuyi Shan. A unique blend we created using 2 batches of original Da Hong Pao cultivar. The leaves were baked twice between rests during summer 2024, resulting a floral, creamy and soft version of the iconic tea.
Harvested from a single bush, young leaves are twice roasted on charcoal throughout the summer of 2023 for a cumulative period of 42 hours. This process results in a dark appearance and a dominant aroma of baking with a complex, rich taste. Da Hong Pao is a unique sub-type of the native yan cha (from Mandarin: "rock tea") varieties grown on the Wuyi Shan land, tea that has become a symbol in Chinese culture. Today, it is mostly a commercial blend not grown on its original soil, intended for export and supermarkets. This is an original version of true Da Hong Pao cultivar.
An entry-level tea, part of the dark oolong series in the premium Wuyi yan cha category. It's a warming tea recommended for consumption in the cool seasons, from autumn to spring, and can age well in its original packaging.
