Gao Xiang "High Aroma" Red Tea (Chinese Black Tea), Summer Harvest 2023, is an original blend created by our grower in the Yongde district on the Yunnan-Burma border. We were involved in all stages of its development and had tasted most of its beta versions. This tea aims to balance the rich flavors of eastern Sinensis variety (Yin) with the aroma of Assamica variety grown in the Yunnan (Yang).
Blend Composition:
- 84% Assamica from Xiao Shu 小树 trees aged 60-80 years from Yongde, Yunnan
- 16% Jin Xuan 金萱 (TTES No. 12) from young 10 year old bushes planted in Dali, Yunnan, from seeds originating in Anxi County.
Both batches were grown sustainably without spraying at altitudes of 1800-2000 meters. They were harvested in the summer and processed separately using the local Dian Hong method, until reaching the final blend, which required several attempts to achieve the perfect Yin-Yang ratio.
We let the leaves rest for half a year since being introduced to our blind tasting club in January 2024. This is a rich daily tea with presence and hints of chocolate, granola, and dried apricot.
We already have samples from the 2024 harvest, and soon there will be a successor to continue the young legacy of this hybrid and special tea, only three seasons old.
