Gaiwan 蓋碗 (Tea Bowl with Lid) 100cc, made of porcelain and natural ash glaze 草木灰, with an exceptionally sharp and thin finish. Designed in a traditional shape named Jixin, Chicken Heart 雞心, for professional infusion of all types of tea and ceremonial Chinese tea brewing. This is the result of our collaboration with a Chinese artist whom we have been working with for the past four years. Most of the gaiwans we use and host in our tea studio are crafted by his skilled hands. The gaiwan is originated from the renowned town of Jingdezhen 景德鎮, known for its exceptional quality porcelain.
The Gaiwan is made of porcelain, glazed using a traditional glazing method 原始青瓷 which dates back over 3,000 years to the Shang Dynasty. The glaze is made from the ash of bamboo leaf, persimmon leaf, sakura leaf and other natural leaves, creating a natural gray color free from synthetic chemicals. This ancient method was used as a coating for primitive iron vessels to prevent rust and mold. The Gaiwan is fired 3 times at temperatures ranging from 1,280 to 3,010 °C, resulting in a glossy look.
We have a very limited stock of less than 25 units, which is the largest batch we have produced so far! This exclusive stock is custom-made specifically for Ho Yum Tea according to our requirements. At the bottom of the bowl you'll find an original ho yum tea signature in traditional Chinese symbols. This is a rare opportunity that occurs only once every few years.
The Gaiwan is nicely packaged in a durable protective box. Please note that the product is non-returnable once it has been used. We recommend visiting our studio for a trial experience with the Gaiwan prior to purchase, by appointment.
