Small and long leaves from the "Da Ye Zhong" 大叶种 large leaf variety, very ancient "Gu Shu" trees that are over 300 years old. Sheng pu'er (raw pu'erh) mao cha, harvested in mid-April 2023 on Dong Guo Mountain at an altitude of 1,750 meters, in the well-known and beloved growing region: Meng Ku, Lincang district of Yunnan province, China. The tea grew on the western side of the mountain, amidst the tangled jungle conditions surrounding the ancient tea trees.
We are excited to share with you an exceptional tea that is going to stay with us for at least a few years, maturing and aging both as loose leaves and alongside cakes. It's not every year that we have the privilege to get our hands on flawless mao cha 毛茶, some of the finest raw material we've tasted in recent years. A fragrant and round tea with an exceptionally smooth finish, and no roughness. A sharp aftertaste that lingers, with a moderate "gan tian" 甘甜 sweetness and abundant Qi.
The initial loose-leaf stock was already sold out in the studio before we managed to photograph it properly and upload it to the website. Everyone falls in love with this sheng, which is in its first year after harvest, characterized by a refreshing, energetic, and easy-to-drink profile. We restocked the loose leaf version but not much of it is left. Later this year we will compress the cakes in Yongde, which will be marketed when the tea will be ready for drinking, likely around 2025 or 2026. Patience is the key. Meanwhile you can age loose or enjoy the young sheng fresh the way we do.
Needless to say, as all our tea from Yunnan, this tea was grown naturally in a sustainable environment without the use of pesticides, nor fertilizers.
